Lake Nakuru National Park is a protected area located in central Kenya, approximately 160 kilometres northwest of Nairobi. The park was established in 1961 and covers an area of 188 square kilometres, with the centrepiece being the shallow alkaline Lake Nakuru. The lake is famous for its large population of flamingos, which gather in huge flocks along the shorelines to feed on the algae that thrive in the alkaline waters. The easiest way to get to Lake Nakuru National Park is by car or bus. From Nairobi, take the A104 highway towards Nakuru, then turn off onto the B51 towards Naivasha. The park is about 4 kilometres from the town of Nakuru. The journey should take approximately 2-3 hours, depending on traffic.
Alternatively, you can take a flight from Nairobi to the nearby Naishi airstrip, which is about 30 minutes away from the park. Once you arrive, you can explore the park on foot, by car or on a guided tour.
Lake Nakuru National Park is known for its abundant wildlife, including endangered black and white rhinos, Rothschild's giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, lions, leopards, and over 400 species of birds, including flamingos.

The dry season, from July to October and from December to March is the best time to visit Lake Nakuru. During this time, the weather is generally dry and sunny, making it easier to spot wildlife, and the roads are in better condition for driving. The dry season also coincides with the peak season for bird watching, as many migratory species arrive in the park. However, the park can get crowded during these months, and prices for accommodations may be higher.
